Advantages And Disadvantages Of Asexual Reproduction Online Biology Tutors Tutorpace The process of the formation of new individuals from their parents is called asexual reproduction. Reproductions are of two types-asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction. The formation of a new individual from a single parent are called asexual reproduction and the formation of a new individuals from two parents of opposite mating types are called sexual reproduction. All the individuals formed through asexual reproduction from a parent are morphologically and genetically similar to one another as well as their parent. They are clone of their parent as well as of one another. Advantages of asexual reproduction: a. It is uniparental. b. The young individuals derived from the same parent are genetically similar to one another as well as to the parent c. It is a quick method of multiplication d. A very large number of individuals can be produced by a single parent. e. The progeny produced through asexual reproduction is of uniform size, shape and other characteristics. f. It does not introduce variability. g. A new individual develop from specialized or unspecialized part of the parent. Disadvantages of asexual reproduction: a. It causes overcrowdings which results in severe competition amongst the daughters. b. Variability and adaptability are absent c. There is no mechanism to introduce good traits or eliminate bad traits d. A disease present in the parent plant spreads to all the daughter individuals e.Due to absence of variation, asexually reproduced organisms are unable to adapt themselves to changes in the environment.
